Night activities in Barcelona

In the evening, Barcelona turns into a city full of culture and fun, with many different leisure activities to choose from. For instance, those who love sport can attend some sport shows that take place between 7pm and 8pm onwards. Seeing a Barcelona FC football match or a Regal Barça basketball match s always a great experience, but of course, try to book your tickets in advance. Attending one of these matches will allow you to see the stadiums from a privileged location. The Palau Blaugrana is a great sight full of people and a great atmosphere. The Monjuic Olympic Stadium also celebrates sport shows as well as other leisure activities like music concerts. The Palau Sant Jordi, nearby, also celebrates concerts. Do you like opera? If you do, you can go to Teatro del Liceu, it doesn’t just welcomes operas to its stage, but other shows like theatre, concerts, musicals and smaller operas for everybody. In Barcelona you will be able to enjoy the most famous musicals. You will find many of them in the best-known theatres in the Paralelo and now also in the dome of the new shopping centre of Las Arenas, where you can enjoy Grease at the moment. There are also some night tourist routes that you can follow on the tourist bus with specialized guides that will be able to tell you some exciting legends. Hurray for the magic of Barcelona!

Christmas shows in Barcelona

Christmas is everywhere, even if we try to avoid it, but it’s not all about eating and celebrating, it is now when most cities, including Barcelona, bring out the best performers to lighten up the mood.

Barcelona is not an exception, this month of December and the beginning of January until the official end of Christmas in Spain on the 6th of January is full of wonderful shows. From the 27 until the 30th of December the band Blackbirds will perform their black soul songs, with feelings of sadness, happiness and loneliness. All of this in Caixa Forum in Barcelona.

If you prefer the classics, the band Ma, me, mi, Mozart! will be performing life some of the all times favourites by the genius in the Barcelona Auditorium between the 28th and 29th December.

If you prefer something a bit more crazy and funny, go to see Per un instant, a show by La Tresca, where you will find aliens mixed with princesses, and funny bugs. All of this in Teatre de Barcelona, 27-30th December.

Or there is always the Festival de la Infancia, the Festival of Children, with many different activities for those little ones in the family. Something to do for the whole family in Fira de Barcelona from the 27th of December until the 4th of January.

Barcelona is a fantastic city in itself, with its wonderful buildings and its many avenues perfectly built and with surprises in every corner, however, there is always space for a bit more excitement, isn’t there?

El Bosc de les Fades, or the Forest of Fairies, is one of such places where you will really be impressed and you will feel transported out of this world. Although a bit difficult to find, Pasaje de la Banca, 7, just by the Wax Museum, it is really worth the effort. The bar is set in a magical world, with a decor worth of the best fairy and fantasy movies. The area is also very big, but it can also be very intimate as it is divided off in different smaller areas, so if you are a romantic couple out in Barcelona for a short break, this is probably the place for you, cosy, dark and intimate.

If you like cocktails you can visit La Martinera in Muntaner 102. In this classic but modern cocktail bar you will find a great variety of cocktails from the classics to new more innovative ones. Martini is the main feature on their menu, with lots of variations and blends.

Here you can also live the tapas experience with many different dishes and snacks adapted to your favourite cocktail.

Theatres in Barcelona

Barcelona is a city with entertainment aplenty thanks to all its theatres and concert halls. If you are in the city and want to enjoy what the night has to offer, we would advise you to visit some of the most important theatres. In these venues you will be able to enjoy all different types of shows, dance, musicals and other deeper plays.

A great part of these theatres are found in the centre, and therefore are quite easy to access from all over the city, especially if you are staying in a hotel in the area, like the Caledonian Hotel.

The Tivoli Theatre in calle Caspe, next to Paseo de Gracia, is one of the most outstanding ones. It is quaint with all its wooden decoration. It hosts often performance by the greatest of the show-business like the Spanish gypsy dancer Joaquin Cortés or many other theatre events.

The Coliseum, a former cinema, is a beautiful space that presents many different types of shows, including stand-up comedy like the Spanish comedians “Los Morancos” or performances by the great Spanish singer Isabel Pantoja.

The area of El Paralelo is the “arty” area in Barcelona. There is also the famous Molino, and you will find theatres with great history, like Victoria, Condal or Apolo that tend to fill up with outstanding muscials like: Grease, Hair, los 40, the Musical… and many other great performances.

A fantastic open-air theatre is the Grec Teatre in Munjuic, part of the Roman heritage left behind by the Romans in the old Barcino. It normally opens during summer, especially for the Greac Summer Festival, with classical plays. It´s always a great place to watch some theatre thanks to its great acoustics.

In the Ramblas, you will find the Club Capitol with two alternative stages especially dedicated to comedy. It was the place where the late comedian Pepe Rubianes used to perform, and for many it is still an honour to be allowed to perform here.

Night clubbing in Barcelona

Barcelona is well known for its exciting night life, and the great offer of clubs and pubs. However, be warned that Barcelona, as the rest of Spain, tends to do things later than in other countries. For instance, you can be still having your dinner at 11pm in a restaurant, leave at 12am and head straight to a club that is just opening. Public transport is also a great plus in this city as it runs very well and with very generous opening hours, on Saturdays theunderground is open all night, which makes things easier for those who love clubbing. One of these clubs is the Sutton Club, an exclusive disco where you will mix with the best dressed people of Barcelona’s night. Tickets are 15 Euros, and it is situated in St Gervasi. Carrer de Tusset 13, just off the blue or green Metro line, Diagonal. For the summer Terrazza is a great way to enjoy music in the open air, it is also in a very quaint and interesting area of Barcelona, Poblet Espanyol. The only drawback is that it opens only between May and October every year. It is situated in Avda. Marquès de Comillas, on the red line, Plaça de Espanya, and ticket prices are 15 Euros. For these and many other clubs in Barcelona, Hotel Caledonian is situated in the perfect location, quite central so you can access as many different areas as possible.
