The MNAC, the National Art Museum of Catalonia, located in the mountain of Montjuic, is an art gallery that has a complete collection of art works featuring works from all different periods.

The mountain of Montjuic has magnificent gardens and parks, buildings and museums that make it even more attractive. The museum is in a very attractive area, as the Fira de Barcelona is situated at the bottom and the Olympic ring and the fountains are near the top.
From the museum the visitor has the chance to enjoy great views over Barcelona. Although it is better to visit it later in the day, to be able to see the contrast of the light at dusk and then compare them to the night-lights of the city.
This museum is a majestic building that brings together different styles. It’s pretty big and in it we will find works representing all different arts sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and many others from all artistic periods.

The Romanesque and Gothic rooms are very attractive, they display pieces of high architectural value. In the hall of the baroque and renaissance are some paintings by important artists such as El Greco, Zurbarán, Velázquez and Rubens.

No less important is modern art, historical photographs or coins. The museum aims to preserve and research piece from all artistic periods to be able to disseminate the knowledge to everybody.
It’s one of the most important and visited museums in Catalonia, and this is also due to its temporary exhibitions, which not only introduce the visitors to Catalonia itself, but also the entire Iberian peninsula and the wide world.

From the Caledonian Hotel guests can access Montjuic by Metro easily, there are only three stops. This is one of the advantages of staying in the centre.
